This has to be getting involved with the Abertay Law Society through the Students Association. I joined at the later end of second year and became president of the society in third year. I continued this post into my fourth year.
My university experience wouldn’t have been the same without joining it and I worked really hard at building up the society, winning the Lothian Family Award for being “instrumental in reinvigorating the Abertay Law Society.” We also won ‘Most Improved Society’ and ‘Best Society of the Year’ in 2018.
The society created a community for the law students and I have made so many great friendships through being a part of it.
I have to say that the whole of DBS staff have been amazing. The Law lecturers have been a massive support since first year. Fiona Grant, Jade Kouletakis, Michelle Weldon-Johns, Maria O’Neil and the head of department Nicholas Grier, who have not only gave great support with completing my honours degree but have also been there to listen and support and guide me when life outside university was trying. Claire MacEachen and Charlie Malone have also provided support and guidance to myself in fourth year. Overall the lecturers have shown a passion for the students and have truly been such a support through university.
After having my daughter in 2011, I decided I needed to go back to college and learn something new. In 2013 I started at Fife College, studying an HNC in Legal Services on a Saturday over 2 years. This was to fit in with my daughter and work.
Towards the end of my time at Fife College, having enjoyed my course I decided to apply to Abertay to study Law and after receiving an A in my grades unit I was accepted.
I will be graduating from Abertay and starting the Diploma in Legal Practice in September. I will also be keeping my connections with Abertay by staying on as an external trustee on the board, for the Students Association.
My long term ambition is to use the skills I have gained to help people in my capacity as a Solicitor.
