Applying from College

Learn more about applying to Abertay University from College.

You're in good company

Around a third of Abertay University students come to us from college, having done an HNC or an HND first. This means we know exactly what you need, and how to support you when you come to us.

In some cases, this means you can start many Abertay degrees in second year with a relevant HNC, or in third year with a relevant HND.

How to apply to Abertay when coming from college

You apply for your degree through UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). This is the same for everyone - whether you are coming straight from school, from college or as a mature student.

For all the details, check out our step-by-step guide about how to apply to Abertay.

Coming from college support

Everyone needs a helping hand at some point, so we provide support to help make your transition from college to university go smoothly.

If you need help with anything, whether it’s a personal, financial or academic issue, we'll help as much as we can. In fact, we provide free support and guidance over your entire time here - from before you arrive, right through to graduation.

Support for joining us in Year 2

When you join us in Year 2, you'll do a microcredential module (a short course) designed specifically for students coming from college.

This helps you really understand how Abertay works, get to grips with the systems and processes of the University, what to expect from the learning experience, and how to develop the key skills you’ll need.

You can also choose from a range of modules such as 'academic writing', 'career planning' and 'research skills' as the years progress.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about these modules, please email studyskills@abertay.ac.uk

Support for joining us in Year 3 or 4

Coming into third or fourth year?

The FREE online ACT programme (Abertay College Transition), has been created for students coming from college into the third and fourth year of a degree. It is designed with student input to help make your transition from college to university go smoothly.

ACT runs in early September for one week, Monday-Friday.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about these modules, please email studyskills@abertay.ac.uk.

The Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ)

You can bring any enquiry to SEZ. They aim to answer most enquiries there and then, and if they don't know the answer, they'll know someone who does! Everything is free and confidential so you know you're in safe hands.

They are based in the library and open every day.
