You probably know about his punditry. If you don’t, switch on the TV during a big football match and there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be there.
How about his time as a professional footballer? You probably know about that too – history isn’t going to forget a 19 year career that took him to the likes of Chelsea and Everton.
Oh…and he’s a Scotland player that actually made it to a major tournament.
It’s safe to say he’s done pretty well. But did you know that he’s an honorary graduate at Abertay University? He received a much deserved degree from us back in 2012.
It wasn’t just to recognise his amazing achievements in sport though. Pat was actually one of the people behind the successful anti-racist campaign in football. He was also a director of the charity Football Aid between 2005 and 2010. And he was Chair of the Scottish Autistic Society Fundraising Committee which raised an incredible £6 million for a new school in Alloa.
Pat’s written for The Times, the Telegraph, the Daily Mail, the Scotsman, NME magazine and lots of other publications. He’s also produced documentaries for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 live, and he’s written a book on psychology in sport.
He’s truly one of Scottish football’s most outstanding figures.
