Andi Lothian

Doctor of Business Administration

At just 19-years-old, Andi Lothian and his East Coast Jazz Band won the Scottish Jazz Championship in front of an audience of over 2,000 attendees at the Glasgow City Halls. After this achievement, Andi turned his attention to group and band agency management and a career as a dance promoter. He was Scottish agent and concert promoter of The Beatles during their breakthrough 1963 tour. Throughout the ‘Swinging Sixties’, in addition to The Beatles, Andi also represented artists including Jimi Hendrix, Gerry Rafferty, The Rolling Stones, The Walker Brothers, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, and many others. Andi is credited with coining the phrase ‘Beatlemania’.

At 29-years-old, Andi left ‘showbiz’ for Financial Services and founded his own insurance brokerage. In the years that followed, he qualified as a Chartered Insurer (FCII) and was a Founder/Director of the Life Insurance Association’s education and examination faculty. Over two decades, Andi and his wife Sheila built Lothian Brokers to a successful business with annual turnover of £3.5M.

After selling the business to a national insurer in 1988, Andi’s ‘third age’ began when he encountered the typology of Swiss psychologist and psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. Andi’s interest in Jungian typology led him to establish Insights Learning and Development, with son Andy, in 1993. From a small Dundee consultancy, Insights has grown into an award-winning, multimillion-pound organisation employing almost 600 people in 18 countries around the world. Insights works with some of the world’s biggest brands to help their people better understand themselves and others, communicate with impact, and tackle pressing business challenges.

At 82-years-old, Andi continues to work for Insights, developing its flagship people development solution Insights Discovery. Andi’s contribution to learning and development was recognised by the University of Abertay Dundee with an Honorary Fellowship in 2008.

Andi lives in Dundee with his wife Sheila. Together, they have six adult children, 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
