We are invested in diversity and equality and aim to provide a truly inclusive experience for all students and staff of the University.

LGBT+

Abertay Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Society aims to support LGBT students, their friends, family and supporters at Abertay University. The society hosts a variety of social events throughout the year and runs weekly support groups which include both group support and one-on-one support with committee members.

The society is open, friendly and approachable and will support you with any difficulties you may face as an LGBT student. The University itself has strict anti-homophobia policies in place and the Student Association will actively support any student who experiences homophobic or discriminatory behaviour. The LGBT society run a befriending scheme to help you find your feet, introduce you to other students and (if interested) help introduce and integrate you into the ‘gay scene’. In addition to this the University run a peer-to-peer (P2P) mentoring scheme to help new students settle into University life.

The University also offers a Counselling service where students can talk to counsellors in confidence about any aspect of the emotions and experiences related to their sexuality or any other matter.

Trans/Transgender

Abertay University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Society provides a welcoming environment for all trans students and they also run transgender awareness sessions.

The University Counselling service operates all year round. They provide open minded, confidential and sensitive support for all students and can help you to deal with all sorts of worries and anxieties as well as the more challenging experiences you may face as a transgender student.
