Physical Activity

Ways to get active at Abertay.

Walking

A short walk can go a long way. We should all aim to be active for 2.5 hours each week and walking at a moderate pace is ideal. And there are lots of benefits. Active people live longer and healthier lives. Being active can:

  • Reduce the risk of heart disease by half.
  • Lower the risk of strokes.
  • Reduce the risk of some cancers, particularly colon and breast cancer.
  • Reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and can help to control diabetes.
  • Improve mood and reduces the risk of depression.
  • Manage weight and reduce blood pressure.
  • Make you more productive at work.

If you need some inspiration on where to walk, we’ve put together a series of short routes all leaving from/coming back to Abertay:

  1. An easy walk around the city centre – ideal for a short break. 1.165miles. View the route on a map.
  2. A walk to explore the V&A. 1.609 miles. View the route on a map.
  3. A longer walk past Hawkhill, Dundee University and back along the Perth Road. 2.498 miles. View the route on a map.
  4. A hilly walk around Dudhope Park. 1.530 miles View the route on a map.
  5. A short but (very) hilly walk up Constitution Road and down the Hilltown. 1.114 miles. View the route on a map.

Walking Meetings: We have developed a Guide to Walking Meetings for Abertay Staff and students. Get out there, enjoy some fresh air and break up the routine of your usual meetings. Walking meetings work best when you are discussing new ideas or want to spark some creativity.

Table Tennis Meetings: Staff and student teams can book out Abertay’s Table Tennis Arena (G11!) to host their team meetings. Check out the guide on how to book, what to expect and for some ideas about what to play during the meetings.

Similar to walking meeting TTTM’s will work best when the content of the team meeting isn’t too heavy or when you are looking for some inspiration, fun and creativity.
