Booking and availability

When does booking open for September 2026?

We’ll email every offer-holder with a direct booking link as soon as applications open. You don’t need to check the iQ website. Booking typically opens in early Spring.

How does the preferential rate work?

We’ve negotiated a limited number of rooms at Parker House at a rate below iQ’s standard price, available exclusively to Abertay students. These are allocated first-come, first-served once booking opens. The rooms, facilities, and bills-included package are identical to iQ’s standard offering, the only difference is the weekly price.

What happens if the preferential-rate rooms are all taken?

You can still book at Parker House directly through iQ at their standard rate. Same building, same en suite rooms, same all-bills-included deal. You can also look at other accommodation providers in Dundee. We’ve listed several on our accommodation pages. Either way, you’ll find somewhere to live.

Is it first-come, first-served?

For the preferential-rate rooms, yes. Applying early gives you the best chance of getting the discounted price. For Parker House at standard rates, rooms are available on an ongoing basis subject to iQ’s availability.

The iQ website says Parker House is sold out. Have I missed my chance?

Not necessarily. The iQ website shows their general public availability, which is separate from Abertay’s preferential allocation. If their site shows limited availability, our allocation may still have rooms. And even if both are fully booked, Dundee has other providers.

I’m coming through Clearing. Can I still get accommodation?

Yes. Preferential-rate rooms may still be available depending on uptake. Parker House may have standard-rate rooms into the summer, and other Dundee providers will have availability too.

Can I choose my room or flat?

You choose your room tier when you book.

Costs and payments

What’s included in my rent?

Everything. Wifi, electricity, gas, water, contents insurance, 24/7 on-site security, and access to all communal facilities. The only additional cost is laundry, which is pay-as-you-go.

Is there a difference in what I get between the preferential rate and the standard rate?

No. The room, facilities, lease terms, and bills-included package are identical. The only difference is the weekly price.

I’m worried about affording accommodation. Is there financial support?

Contact Abertay’s Student Advisory Service (advisory@abertay.ac.uk). They can help with SAAS bursaries, discretionary funds, and budgeting. Don’t let cost concerns stop you from applying, there’s more help available than most students realise.

Guarantors

What is a guarantor?

Someone who agrees to cover your rent if you can’t pay. iQ requires a UK-based guarantor aged 18+ for all bookings — both at our preferential rate and at their standard rate. This is standard across most UK student accommodation.

Your lease and moving out

How long is the lease?

43 weeks, September to June. This covers the full academic year including exam periods. This applies to both preferential-rate and standard-rate bookings at Parker House.

Can I leave early?

Your lease is a commitment for the full 43 weeks. If your circumstances change, contact iQ as soon as possible. They have an early-release process. For example, re-letting your room, which would end your liability. The earlier you contact them, the more options are available.

What happens at the end of my lease?

Move out by the date in your contract (typically late June). iQ will send checkout instructions in advance.

What to bring

What’s provided in my room?

Single bed, desk and chair, wardrobe, shelving, en suite bathroom. Shared kitchens include oven, hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, kettle, and toaster. Bring your own bedding and towels.

Is there a packing list?

Essentials: bedding, towels, kitchen kit, toiletries. Don’t overpack as you can pick things up in Dundee.

International students

Can I move in early?

Early arrival may be possible. Contact iQ at least four weeks before your planned arrival. An additional charge may apply.

I need somewhere before my lease starts.

Short-term options include hotels or an Airbnb. Contact international@abertay.ac.uk for advice.

Do I need to bring bedding?

You can bring your own or order a bedding pack through iQ, which will be in your room when you arrive.
