Our practical degrees are taught in state-of-the-art facilities and are accredited by industry, showing that our students are ready for the world of work when they graduate.

Did you know...? Food Science at Abertay was ranked first in Scotland for teaching quality and student experience in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.

How the Course Works

It’s flexible

There are four courses covering food science, nutrition, fitness, wellbeing, and consumer science. The first two years of each course cover the same curriculum.

This initial two-year foundation curriculum is about Food Science, Nutrition and Wellbeing.

You can choose from the following pathways when you study Food Science, Nutrition and Wellbeing at Abertay:

  • BSc (Hons) Food Science, Nutrition and Wellbeing

  • BSc (Hons) Food and Consumer Science (accredited by the Institute of Food Science and Technology)

  • BSc (Hons) Food, Nutrition and Health (accredited by the Association for Nutrition)

  • BSc (Hons) Fitness, Nutrition and Health (accredited by the Association for Nutrition)

If you want to work in this industry or continue your studies but haven’t worked out exactly what you want to do, this is a great way to start. Our two-year foundation approach means you can keep your options open until you’ve learnt more about what really interests you.

Dr Karen Barton and Dr Jonathan Wilkin explain more about Food Science, Nutrition and Wellbeing pathways in the video below.
