Eduard is a Year 3 BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling student at Abertay University.
The Santander Opportunities Fund allowed me to undertake a British Psychological Society workshop: The role of the psychologist in responding to youth suicide in schools. The training took place at the BPS office in London. It was a full day training where I had the chance to interact with educational psychologists in a professional setting. The workshop was done by an Educational and Child Psychologist and, as a practitioner, it provided a very different perspective from my university teacher.
I would like to thank Santander Universities for the funding. I am very grateful that such funding is provided, especially since this issue is a global health crisis.Eduard Margarit | Abertay University | Year 3 BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling
The current curriculum doesn't focus very much on suicide, so this allowed me to have a better understanding of youth suicide and how prevention and postvention can be used. The training allows me to implement a Suicide Postvention Response Plan. This is very useful for me because I plan to work with children in the future.
Having completed this workshop equipped me to undergo more research in suicide prevention and postvention, and hopefully give me an advantage in working with children.
