Pocket Sized Hands

Dundee-based games studio Pocket Sized Hands used the scheme as an opportunity to increase resource and grow their company. They provided an internship for two of our students who have continued to work for them on a full-time basis after graduating.

Why did you choose to take part in the Santander Employability Scheme?

As a young business it was a great opportunity to invest in ourselves and develop as a company. We took part in the internship opportunity for 3 main reasons:

  1. To explore new opportunities to work with clients, the additional hands were a benefit in allowing us to slightly expand our work load

  2. To start preliminary work on our own games. At the time, we had been heavily invested in work for hire and the internships were a way we could explore the development some of our own concepts.

  3.  To explore the talent pool at Abertay and put ourselves in a good position for hiring new graduates. (Abertay being one of the leading Universities for game development in Europe).

By taking part in the scheme, we were able to take the first steps into growing our company with additional support and minimal risks.

What were the benefits of having an intern in your company?

Using the internship programme, we were able to take the first steps into growing our company with additional support and minimal risks. We had ongoing work the interns could assist on while also learning and developing their craft.  It also allowed us to recognise the best Talent coming through Abertay. Two of the interns we took on through the internship programme now work full time with us at Pocket Sized Hands.
