Gary Taylor

Gary Taylor from Kirriemuir will graduate in Computing Science.

Why Abertay?

Abertay has a fantastic Computing course and allowed me to work in many different areas such as Gaming and Ethical Hacking. The University allowed me to create many projects and the lecturers where incredibly helpful and wanted to help you.

What’s your plans for after graduation?

To undertake my Masters at Abertay and get a stable job within my field. I'd love to work with robotics.

The help is there if you want to do well while you study.

Tell us a bit about your final year project.

I restored the K9 model from Doctor Who that Abertay bought from the BBC and made him into an autonomous mapping robot. The project was so successful it made it into the local news such as the Courier and STV. I was very proud of this project and I'm still working to improve the model.

What do few people know about you?

I am an avid lover of music and love playing when I can. I have performed in many different locations and have busked around Scotland and England. My favourite event was the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which I have attended for 2 years now. It's always exciting to meet and play with new people and learn their experiences in the industry

What’s your advice for students starting at Abertay after the summer?

University is completely different to school. The idea of university is to make yourself want to learn about your subject. The staff are always helpful and want you to succeed. The help is there if you want to do well while you study.
