Tell us about your journey to Abertay.
I used to be the worst student possible. For years I thought that I was not that bright, but something made me try again here in Scotland and to my amazement I found areas I was good at. This combined with having my dyspraxia diagnosed during College meant I understood my strengths and was able to figure out how to get those A’s.
Before Abertay I completed an HND in Game Development and it was the common knowledge in the class that Abertay stood above the rest when it came to gaming education. I had to check it out myself so I attended two of the Open Days and tried to speak to as many lecturers as I could. I left feeling impressed and I returned the next year as a student.
Those same lecturers have been one of my favourite things about studying here. They are personable, knowledgeable and good teachers. I can see myself keeping in touch after my graduation.
What are your plans for the future?
To seek out employment immediately in Dundee or Edinburgh. While the Master’s programme is appealing, the drive to work is strong.

Tell us a bit about your dissertation or main final year project
I’m currently doing my dissertation, which is a comparative study on a traditional crowd simulation compared to one I’ve made by training a neural network. I see a huge potential in artificial intelligence in games and I hope this will be a good first step in learning more about it. At the same time, I am the lead programmer in one of the teams taking part in the Dare Academy competition.
What’s something few people know about you?
I have travelled extensively, mostly by hitchhiking. I’ve travelled throughout most of Europe and explored half of Central America. The first year of my travel cost only £1000.
What’s your advice for students starting at Abertay after the summer?
Make sure you’re utilising your time effectively. There will be a number of options on the table, but you should pick a couple and focus on them. Just because a deadline is four months away, doesn’t mean working on it is not urgent.
