Pre-CAS Credibility Interviews

All the information you need about pre-CAS credibility interviews if you're an applicant who requires a Student Visa.

Completing an Abertay credibility pre-CAS interview

Some applicants are required to successfully complete an Abertay pre-CAS interview. This requirement is part of Abertay’s measures to meet our duties as a UKVI visa sponsor and ensure you are a genuine student. The interview can also be useful preparation for the real UKVI credibility interview, as the questions will cover the same topics.

More information on applying for a Student Visa can be found on the gov.uk website.

Who needs an interview?

Applicants domiciled in the following areas will be required to complete a credibility interview:

  • Bangladesh

  • Gaza

  • Ghana

  • India – Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Telangana

  • Iran

  • Nepal

  • Nigeria

  • Pakistan

  • Sri Lanka

  • Syria

Applicants may also be required to complete an interview if a Medium of Instruction letter is used as evidence of English language. Abertay also reserves the right to require an applicant to complete an interview if we identify credibility risk factors such as previous visa refusals when reviewing your information in CAS Shield.

Process and fees

Before you can be invited to an interview, you must make a £500 prepayment. This amount can later be deducted from your deposit. If you have already paid your deposit, no additional £500 payment is required.

To make your £500 payment visit our payments page.  Please note payments must be made using Flywire.

Once you have made the payment, please update your CAS Shield with the deposit amount paid.

Not proceeding with a credibility interview

If Admissions are unable to proceed to CAS following your credibility interview, the £500 prepayment, or deposit amount, will be refunded except in the following circumstances:

  • If you miss both your original and rescheduled interview appointments, the University will retain £500 to cover administrative costs.

  • If deception is identified during your interview, the full deposit amount will be retained.

  • You do not proceed to CAS or visa because fraudulent documents have been identified. In this case, the full deposit amount will be retained.

Within five working days of making your payment, you will be invited to an interview. Please ensure you attend the date and time provided, noting the time zone on the invitation.

If you need any support during the interview process please email admissions@abertay.ac.uk to make arrangements.

Deadlines for interview completion are available on our dates and deadline page.

What happens next

Once you complete your interview, you will be notified of the outcome. If you are successful, you will proceed to the next step of the CAS process. You will be given feedback on your interview to help you be prepared for a UKVI credibility interview. If you are not successful, you will be sent an email with feedback on the reason for the decision and advice on next steps.

Please note: Applicants who do not pass the University's credibility assessment will not be eligible for Student Visa sponsorship, regardless of whether they have met some or all other conditions. Furthermore, a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) will only be issued once all application documents have been satisfactorily verified.

Privacy

Our interviews are conducted by an external provider, Remarkable Law Consultancy (RLC). If you require an interview, we will share details of your application for the purpose of confirming your identity and assessing your credibility for the course applied for. Interviews are recorded and will be retained by the University per UKVI requirements as part of the evidence used to assess your application. RLC may also use your data to support you with an administrative review after CAS issuing if you receive a visa refusal.
