On Wednesday 30 April, Annelize McKay, Professor of International Law and Bioethics, delivered an Abstract 45 talk titled: "The Recalcitrant Chatbot: Liability for Medical Negligence in the Age of AI".
In the talk, Annelize explored the challenges of determining responsibility when AI systems, like chatbots, fail to perform as expected or cause harm. Drawing on Canadian case law, current legal frameworks, and emerging AI technologies, the session examined issues of accountability, negligence, and liability in cases where chatbots assist in decision-making that leads to harm, misinformation, or breaches of contract.
