Eligibility

You must meet all the eligibility criteria for the Scholarship/Award.

  • You must be a new entrant in the relevant year and register as a student at Abertay University to receive the award. Awards are not available retrospectively to current students.
  • Sponsored students (defined as government/company) are eligible for Scholarship awards.
  • Must be studying on campus in Dundee (with the exception of the Abertay Alumni Discount, which can be applied to Abertay Online students).
  • You must meet the terms and conditions of your offer of a place.

The University’s decision on the equivalence and eligibility of your qualifications, and whether to offer an Award is final.

Application

You do not need to make an application for an Abertay Scholarship. If you meet all of the eligibility criteria you will be notified by our Admissions team of the Award/Scholarship you are eligible for.

Applications must be made for all external scholarships.

RUK Student Scholarships

RUK Scholarship

  • Once an award has been made, you must confirm your acceptance of the Scholarship within four weeks of notification. Failure to do so will result in the award being withdrawn.

International Student Scholarships

Abertay International Scholarship, Principal's Excellence Scholarships, Dean's Scholarship and Abertay IB30+ Scholarship

  • Once an award has been made, please confirm your acceptance of the Scholarship as soon as possible.
  • Please note, you can accept your scholarship before accepting your offer of study. 
  • Scholarships are typically awarded within 10 working days of receiving your offer to study at Abertay.
  • If you receive a second scholarship with a higher award value, both scholarships will have a total combined value which is equal to the higher award value.

Payment

Scholarships are of a fixed value and will not increase with inflation. They are awarded each year for the full length of the course, however are not payable for repeat years of study. 

RUK Student Scholarships

  • Abertay RUK scholarships are awarded as a cash award and are payable into your bank account. You will usually receive one payment instalment each year, spread across the number of years of the course.
  • Please note that part time students will be paid the award on a pro-rata basis.
  • Please note that scholarship payments may be withheld and applied to overdue tuition/accommodation fees if you fail to adhere to any instalment plan. 

International Student Scholarships

  • International student scholarships are awarded as a reduction in your tuition fee.
  • You will be required to pay 50% of the net annual tuition fee (gross annual tuition fee minus annual scholarship amount) in order to receive your Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter to apply for your visa.

International Student Scholarships

The following international student scholarships are relevant for those starting their studies with Abertay in the 2026/27 or 2027/28 academic years:

Scholarships awarded to students offered a place at Abertay starting in September 2026 or January 2027 will be honoured if they choose to defer start date to the next academic intake, ie:

Undergraduate programmes: Scholarships awarded for September 2026 start will be honoured if the student chooses to defer their start date to the next academic intake (September 2027)

Postgraduate programmes: Scholarships awarded for September 2026 or January 2027 start will be honoured if the student chooses to defer their start date to the next academic intake (January 2027 / September 2027 - course dependent). 

Transferability

You will continue to receive your Abertay scholarship / award if you decide to change the programme you are studying at Abertay University, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.

All Abertay scholarships / awards are not transferable to other institutions.

Multiple Awards

If you qualify for more than one scholarship, you will be awarded the highest award.

RUK Student Scholarships

  • Applicants can be considered for multiple scholarships, but students will only be awarded one Abertay Scholarship i.e. applicants cannot receive multiple Abertay awards.

International Student Scholarships

  • If you receive a second scholarship with a higher award value, both scholarships will have a total combined value which is equal to the higher award value.
  • The Abertay International Scholarship can be combined with the following:

Students from Partner institutions

Students from one of our partner institutions can be considered for Scholarships, but can only receive either the partner discount on tuition fees or the Scholarship. Students may only be eligible if studying on campus in Dundee. Please speak to your partner institution for more details.

Termination of Award

Your Scholarship/Award will be terminated if you no longer meet the eligibility requirements. If you withdraw from or are withdrawn from your studies with us, your Scholarship/Award will be terminated.

Use of data

All students who are awarded a scholarship or award agree to allow Abertay's External and Corporate Relations department and the International Recruitment and Partnerships Office to share their data with other departments/services within the University.

By accepting a scholarship or award, students are agreeing to the University using their details for promotional purposes and may be asked to provide a case study or profile which may be used in University publications or on the website.

Changes to the Scheme

The University reserves the right to amend, discontinue or withdraw any Abertay Scholarship at any time without prior notice.

 

Dispute Resolution

Acceptance of the Scholarship or Award constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.

Registered students should contact the International Recruitment and Partnerships Office in the first instance for guidance in relation to these awards, by email on international@abertay.ac.uk

In cases not covered by these terms and conditions, or where a student claims exceptional circumstances, or wishes a decision not to make payments due, the student should contact the University Secretary on sro@abertay.ac.uk, and this will be considered through the Student Complaint Procedure.
