Biography

I am a Lecturer in Criminology and Policing and specialise in policing and criminal justice.

I am a retired Detective Chief Superintendent and served as a police officer with police forces in both Scotland and England. I also had several secondments to UK national policing and intelligence agencies and worked for 3 years with Europol in the Netherlands. My policing expertise lies principally in the investigation of serious crime and organised crime; criminal intelligence; inter-agency cooperation; transnational investigations; and covert policing techniques. Prior to retiring from the police service, I was the Head of the East Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit.

I am a member of the Abertay University alumni, and currently a PhD candidate at the university, where my research study examines policing’s commitment to physical forms of local neighbourhood engagement.
I am interested in all aspects of policing research and have recently carried out work with other colleagues on the police response to Covid-19, and police talent development.

I am a member of the Board of Trustees for the Dundee Citizens Advice Bureau.
