Biography

I am a Lecturer in Creative Computing, an art practitioner and researcher, and a Co-I at CoSTAR National Lab(UKRI AHRC-funded) as part of the Worldbuilding team. As part of the CoSTAR National Lab, I’m exploring the future of the UK's screen and performance sectors with an emphasis on live music. The Lab’s interests lie in the area of democratisation, and equitable access to the technologies we think will transform the Creative Industries.

My practices and research interests lie in sound/digital art, creative experiments using interactive game technology, artificial intelligence, playful engagement, and embodied digital expression. By exploring alternative ways of communication in digital space, I try to find accessibility and inclusivity.

My postdoctoral research was with InGAME (UKRI AHRC-funded), where I developed the multiplayer VR sound improvisation Sound of Light to experiment with hand gestures and embodied musicality through anonymous and non-verbal play. I also participated in several industry projects including the Whale Song Park project with Konglomerate Games, and the text-to-speech tool for dyslexic players Dislectek with Lowtek Games.

I lead CMP512 - Applied Analytics: Case Studies. The module is designed to have a look at real-world case studies using Machine Learning tools and think about ethical approaches to data collection. I invite active practitioners and researchers for this module from various fields such as games, arts, music, medical studies etc. Please do contact me if you have exciting ideas to deliver related to this subject.

I lead AUD201 - Game Audio. The module teaches fundamentals for designing interactive sound for game audio. Students learn how to create their own audio assets by recording and how to implement the assets into a game using game audio middleware.

I supervise Honours and MSc students. I'm open to accepting PhD candidates.
