Abertay's Marketing courses recognised for helping students exceed expectations and reach their full potential

Abertay University’s undergraduate Marketing programmes have been ranked number one in the UK for ‘value added’ in the Guardian University Guide 2026 - a major recognition of the institution's ability to help students exceed expectations and outperform their entry qualifications.

‘Value added’ is a key metric in national university rankings, reflecting how effectively a course supports students to achieve strong academic outcomes relative to their starting points. It signals not just teaching quality, but the strength of the full educational environment, including support, mentoring, and skills development.

The ranking reinforces the institution's growing reputation for excellence in business education and highlights the strength of Abertay’s hands-on, industry-informed approach to marketing.

Programme Leader for Marketing, Kathy-Ann Fletcher, said:

We’re absolutely delighted to be ranked top in the UK for value added. This recognition reflects the hard work and ambition of our students, and the dedication of our academic team to providing a high-quality, supportive, and professionally relevant experience. Our approach is rooted in real-world marketing practice, and we’re proud to see this translating into outstanding results for our students. Whether they’re working on live projects, engaging with industry experts, or developing digital marketing skills, we’re helping them build the confidence and capabilities they need to thrive.

The Marketing programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and is designed to embed employability throughout the curriculum. With modules on consumer behaviour, brand strategy, digital communications, analytics, and ethics, the course equips students for a wide range of marketing careers.

In addition to this subject ranking, the Guardian also named Abertay the top modern university in Scotland.

This success follows Abertay being ranked Scotland’s top modern university for student experience in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026. Earlier in the year, Abertay also achieved a Scottish modern university “hat-trick” in the Complete University Guide 2026, leading in student satisfaction, research intensity, and facilities investment.
