INTERVIEW: Dundee Utd legend and alum Maurice Malpas

A picture of Maurice Malpas outside Abertay University

Former Dundee Utd star Maurice Malpas has told Abertay University that he nearly became an electrical engineer rather than a footballer.

The football legend studied at Dundee College of Technology – which would later become Abertay University – in the late 70s and early 80s.

He has filmed a special interview with us to mark our 25th anniversary year.

Uniquely, Maurice played senior football for Dundee Utd while he studied here and was even capped for Scotland.

This made him the last men’s player to earn senior international recognition for Scotland while playing on a part-time basis.

Maurice has maintained close links with the university, and was made an honorary Doctor of Arts in 1996.
