Everyone deserves equal opportunities for education and personal growth, regardless of their backgroundChloe Peters | Abertay University | LLB (Hons) Law
A care-experienced mature student who has helped co-design advances in Abertay University’s student support approach will graduate with a law degree later this month.
Chloe Peters grew up in a single-parent household that was marred by drug abuse and neglect, leading her to eventually being placed in kinship care with her aunt and uncle.
After completing school, she went straight into employment in the hospitality sector and, although she gained valuable life experience, after nearly a decade she was ready to pursue a new career and become a role model for her younger sister.
Chloe's arrival at Abertay proved to be the perfect match for her aspirations. She embraced University life and soon flourished, nominated by her peers on the LLB (Hons) Law programme to the role of class rep in her second year.
She then went on to work with the Student Services team to create a Care-Experienced Student Rep role, designed to provide support and a dedicated platform for students to engage with the University.
Chloe now has her sights set on working in a law firm after Graduating this summer at the Caird Hall in Dundee.
Chloe said:
The Care-Experienced Student Rep new role will make a real difference in improving the experience of students who have been in care and it as great to be able to engage with the University on this initiative. Everyone deserves equal opportunities for education and personal growth, regardless of their background, and by creating a dedicated platform and giving them a voice, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment where these students feel valued, setting them up for success in the future.
