The small class sizes help a lot as the lecturers are able to give us individual attention which greatly improves the learning experienceAnushka Uduvila Arachchige | Abertay University | MSc Accounting and Finance (CIMA Gateway)
Anushka pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka from 2006 to 2010 before embarking on a career in the finance industry.
After deciding to pursue a Masters degree, Anushka was drawn to Abertay due to its small size and close-knit community, leading her to successfully apply for the MSc Accounting and Finance (CIMA Gateway) programme.
Developed in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the programme equips students with essential skills crucial for a successful career in finance and is one of only a select few in the UK offering an accelerated route to becoming a chartered accountant.
Students on the course receive significant study support from CIMA with programme fees including CIMA registration, the first year’s CIMA subscription fees, an attempt at the CIMA Management Case Study Exam, and access to CIMAstudy.com and CIMAconnect online.
In addition to the support received from CIMA, Anushka attributes her academic success to Abertay's small class sizes, emphasising the individual attention and meaningful engagement with her lecturers.
She said:
I loved my time at Abertay because I really enjoyed attending my classes. The lecturers were very friendly and down to earth, and I had friends from all over the world, which made my experience even better.
This led to Anushka's outstanding academic achievement—a Distinction with an impressive overall GPA of 4.5 for her Master's degree. Her exceptional performance earned her two prestigious awards: the University Prize, acknowledging her as the leading postgraduate student in the School, and the esteemed Donald T. Steward Prize, honouring her as the top student in the MSC Accounting and Finance programme.
