What's your long term ambition?

Long term I look forward to becoming a Home Economics teacher in a Secondary School. I hope to be an integral part of a Home Economics department and team and be able to support young people develop skills, values and qualities towards successful adulthood.

How are you feeling now that your time at Abertay has come to an end?

I will miss my studies at Abertay, but feel that I have been truly supported to graduate with a degree that I am immensely proud of and with the skills to thrive in my professional and personal life. I think mostly I will miss the community feel of the small university with my peers and my lecturers who really supported me through the harder parts of my studies. I look forward to learning more as I head into postgraduate study!

Why did you decide to study at Abertay?

I have always had a passion for food and health and knew that my career would be related to this in some fashion. Before University, I contacted the General Teaching Council for Scotland and asked the best University for studying towards Home Economics Teaching. They highly recommended Abertay for equipping young teachers and this therefore was my best option.

What were the highlights of your time at Abertay?

I personally loved the mix of studies and learning experiences that Abertay offered throughout my studies. From cooking demonstrations to microbiology labs to the study of Scottish disease and how to gather data. I really feel I have graduated with a holistic mix of invaluable skills and knowledge for my future, and an understanding of health, nutrition and sustainability related to our current standing.

How did you find having to move to online learning due to COVID-19?

I initially struggled with the transition to online learning. Technology is not something that I was skilled in and this did worry me slightly. As much as I preferred face-to-face teaching, I did feel well supported by lecturers and was supported towards succeeding in my studies in exceptional circumstances. I also definitely now feel strong in the use of TEAMS for which I am sure I will carry into my career.
