"I never expected to take this particular career path and just happened to discover that I really enjoyed science and studying the human mind."Nikolay Panayotov | MSc in Psychology | 2018
After I graduated with my Computer Games Technology degree, I was employed as a Research Assistant at Abertay. I was to build the technology the Psychology department needed so that they could run their experiments online. As I worked there I started to feel inspired to do research and science. I was encouraged to take the Psychology Masters and that’s what I did. I was actually offered an interview with a games company in London, but after I got the job in the Psychology department I ended up declining that.
I never expected to take this particular career path and just happened to discover that I really enjoyed science and studying the human mind. Even before that I’d been interested in serious games and how games technology can be applied to areas outside of entertainment.
My research interests revolve around combining gaming with scientific research – and particularly research on the human mind. I’m currently working on a PhD proposal to continue on this path.
My long-term aspiration is to become an academic. I’d like to continue to contribute to high quality research.
