"This course allows you to explore various roles and build on your knowledge as you'd do in the real world. A studio simulated course."Anjali Shibu | Design Assistant | Playground Games
When I was looking at good, practically oriented courses, I found Abertay's Master's programme. Unlike most other courses that focused solely on building skills in specific areas, this course allowed you to explore various roles, and build on your knowledge as you'd do in the real world. A studio simulated course. While there are other up-and-coming courses that may be comparable, this is one of the best courses I've been a part of in all my education, which transitioned extremely well into a working environment. I'd recommend this course to anyone who's serious about wanting to work in the Game Industry!
I was part of the social media team in Abertay briefly and found it a wonderful experience that added to my time at the university! For the first time, I chose to actively make vlogs and enjoyed the experience it brought me - from tasting wonderful Scottish snacks to making Cranachan and making little trips around the corner to experience something new. The social media team pushed me out of my comfort zone at my own pace and even today, I try to find new experiences outside my likes.
After having finished my course at Abertay, I spent a few months making small games (as part of jams) with some of my coursemates and friends. I got my lucky break into the industry when I joined Playground Games as a Design Assistant. Almost a year has passed since I joined the industry, and in that time I've shipped two titles with Playground Games - Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels & Forza Horizon 5: Rally Adventure. They were wonderfully challenging projects, and I've learned much during this journey thanks to my colleagues.
There are still a lot of different kinds of games I'd love to have a hand in making. I'd like to be able to have a chance at dabbling in various genres and inspiring others like myself to join the games industry. Eventually, I'd like to be able to set up an indie studio, where I can make the kind of games I've been dreaming about. Fingers crossed!
