I chose to go to Abertay, mainly because the university was willing to let me start in second year, giving me credit for open university maths and engineering modules I had completed before.

I made some great friends and when I look back on my time there, I miss it. Knowing more about other people’s experience of university I now see that I was lucky to have lecturers who give a lot of time to students.

Abertay gave me a good exposure to a wide range of topics around engineering that have come in useful. The placement in third year secured my first engineering related job which gave me the experience to get where I am now.

My 3rd year placement led to a full-time job straight after my graduation, where I worked as a site engineer for a construction contractor for about 18 months. In that role I generally did more management work than engineering and my project manager suggested that project management might be a good role for me to pursue. When I decided to move overseas, I also decided to make the move out of construction and into project management. Luckily, I found a company who were willing to give me an opportunity based on my skills and life experience, despite not having any PM experience. I am now back working in the Engineering space.
