"Having the smaller campus really made it feel more personal as you would bump into your friends on the way to class or could arrange to meet up between lectures."Chloe Williams | Action for Children | Housing Support Worker
I chose to study at Abertay because I liked the fact that they offered alternative route of entry to its courses. As someone who left school never thinking university was an option, Abertay really appealed to me and made me realise that getting a degree was possible! I also enjoyed the fact that it was a smaller university with everything in walking distance. Having the smaller campus really made it feel more personal as you would bump into your friends on the way to class or could arrange to meet up between lectures.
The thing I liked the most about coming to Abertay was the freedom! Despite doing a year at college before coming to university I feel like I only really started to appreciate the independence once I moved to Dundee. Starting 1st year really felt like I had to grow up and be responsible, whether it was doing all the basic things to making sure my deadlines were in on time (and don’t forget the nights out…)
My favourite memory would be the people! During my time at Abertay I met a lot of people, some of whom will be life-long friends. Over the four years (especially 1st year) you come across a lot of different personalities so can be a bit overwhelming but it’s all worth it in the end! While it sounds cliched another favourite memory of mine would be completing my dissertation. Don’t get me wrong, it was a stressful year (especially with the added stress of the pandemic) but I really enjoyed the topic my project was on. After working so hard on something to then see it all come together, it was a proud moment!
I'm not completely sure what my future aspirations are yet as I am still enjoying the stage that I'm at. However, I do know that I would like to use my degree while continuing to helping others.
