Melissa Faulkner | Abertay University | BA (Hons) Criminology

Melissa's decision to pursue a Criminology degree at Abertay University was influenced by her positive experience at the institution's Open Day, where she felt a strong connection with the university's friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Throughout her time at Abertay, Melissa thrived in her Criminology programme, which offered a unique blend of theoretical frameworks and practical applications.

The small class sizes and close relationships with lecturers allowed for meaningful interactions with classmates who shared her passion for the subject. Melissa particularly enjoyed learning about the various aspects of criminology, from crime prevention to criminal justice policy. The course's emphasis on real-world applications resonated with her, and she was eager to put her knowledge into practice.

The highlight of Melissa's academic journey was her placement as a Student Custody Navigator for SACRO. This hands-on experience allowed her to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, developing essential skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. The placement not only deepened her understanding of criminology but also prepared her for a career in the field.
