Jordan Towns

Jordan, a native of Dundee, discovered his passion for cyber-security at a young age. When he found out that Abertay University offered an Ethical Hacking course, he knew it was the perfect fit for him. 

Jordan's educational journey was not without its challenges. Due to a lack of understanding about his undiagnosed Asperger's syndrome, he struggled in school, obtaining only a few qualifications. 

Despite the setbacks, Jordan refused to give up on his passion for cybersecurity. He persevered and earned a HNC degree, which led him to secure a spot in the second year of Abertay's programme. 

Throughout his studies, Jordan was deeply grateful to two exceptional lecturers, Dr. Colin McLean and Jamie O'Hare, who created a welcoming environment that put him at ease. Dr. O'Hare's personalized guidance and encouragement enabled Jordan to overcome his shyness and anxiety, allowing him to participate in a "Fireside Chat" and he is now eager to do so again. 

One of Jordan's most notable accomplishments at Abertay was his participation in a university-funded trip to an International Cybersecurity summer school in Amberg, Germany, where he joined his classmates for a life-changing experience. Despite initial anxieties about socialising, Jordan overcame his fears and successfully interacted with new people, forging lasting friendships that went beyond mere acquaintances. This transformative experience significantly boosted his confidence, enabling him to engage with others with greater ease and comfort. 

The structured itinerary allowed us to explore various aspects of cyber-security, which complemented my Ethical Hacking course and offered valuable learning experiences. Moreover, we were fortunate to have a local guide take us on guided tours of Amberg, sharing insights into the city's rich history and its connections to Scotland and the British monarchy.
