Northern Virginia Community College

Abertay University has been welcoming students from Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) since 2015. As part of our agreement, we offer transfer options in specific subject areas and also host a Summer Bootcamp for students interested in Ethical Hacking, Cybersecurity and Criminology. 

Transferring to Abertay from NOVA

NOVA students are guaranteed entry into Abertay University if they complete the necessary prerequisites, obtain their Associate's Degree and maintain a 3.0 GPA. 

Abertay is happy to accept students articulating from:

• Accounting

• Business

• Computer Science / IT

• Computer Arts

• Cybersecurity

We accept a variety of NOVA degrees in those subject areas. If your major isn't on the list, contact us and we can talk about adding a new route for you. 

How to apply

1. Contact your NOVA Transfer Coordinator, Jennifer Nelson (jlnelson@nvcc.edu) who will help you create a transfer track, ensuring you take the necessary prerequisites to transfer to Abertay at the end of your Associate’s degree.

2. Contact Abertay’s International Officer, Beth Thomas (b.thomas@abertay.ac.uk) who will talk you through the application process and provide information on studying and living in Dundee, Scotland. 

Summer Bootcamp

Our Ethical Hacking, Cybersecurity, and Criminology Bootcamp is a hybrid program that takes place over seven weeks and is taught at the UK Centre for Excellence in Cyber Security and the School of Business, Law, and Social Sciences at Abertay University. The first four weeks are attended virtually and the second three weeks take place on Abertay's campus in Dundee, Scotland.

• The Ethical Hacking portion of the program includes both Ethical Hacking as well as an introduction to C++ programming. The aim of this course is to provide the student with knowledge of the issues and practicalities involved in securing computer systems and the framework within which computer security specialists would need to operate.

• The Criminology course provides students with an introduction to the criminal justice in the UK and includes comparative focus between the US and the UK. It examines how the criminal justice system operates, its key agencies and processes, as well as their relationship with the wider institutions, structures and issues in modern society, including Cyber Crime, the role of the victim and wider debates and theories on crime and justice in the two countries.

ITP 270 Programming for Cyber Security (3 CR)
ADJ 295 Special Topics in Comparative Criminology (3CR)

These credits can be applied to the following
degrees:

• AS Criminology and Criminal Justice

• AAS Administration of Justice

• AAS Cybersecurity
