The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) is also considered for entry to year 1 where applicants have achieved Level 443-544 in three subjects, depending upon the course you have chosen to study at Abertay and the specific HKDSE subjects you have studied.
Please refer to the table below for detailed HKDSE entry requirements. Applicants who have achieved Level 5 grades, and have suitable subjects, may be considered for entry to year 2.
Students who pass English at grade 4 or 5 will be considered to have met the English language requirement. We strongly recommend that these students undertake our short pre-sessional programme (with access to their chosen degree following completion) prior to degree study. Alternatively, students may present another acceptable English language qualification such as IELTS.
The Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) is considered comparable to the UK GCE A Level or Scottish Advanced Higher standard, although the level of attainment required for the award of a specific grade in Maths and Science subjects is considered to be marginally higher in the HKALE.
For example, a grade D in HKALE AL is comparable to a grade C in the relevant UK qualifications. Applicants who are taking 3 subjects at HKALE Advanced Level will be considered for entry to year 1 of our undergraduate courses, or year 2 where good grades and relevant subjects are achieved.
