This programme offers a blend of knowledge, analytical and practical skills. This blend is vital for effective management of people in the challenging context of today’s public and private sector organisations.
Upon graduation, you'll be in a position to effectively make decisions and advise on a wide range of influences on business and HR strategies. You’ll develop the ability to supply accurate and timely advice about UK legislation, helping shape improvements to organisational and individual performance. There's an opportunity to study and be able to implement HRM policies and practices that take into account influences from different stakeholders and institutional forces relevant to the dealing with people’s contributions and rewards within organisations.

How the Course Works
Learning and Assessment
MSc Human Resource Management is a very practice-oriented subject, and this is reflected in the way you'll be taught and assessed. Theory will of course be explored, but it’s in the application of this theory that you’ll learn how to address the challenges faced in managing people and organisations.
On Graduating from the Programme, You Will Know How To:

Critically evaluate contemporary HR policies and practices in different business, industry and organisational contexts.

Initiate, promote and implement organisational change and development policies.

Develop effective evidence-based practices and policies designed to support strategic objectives and effective human capital building, deployment and reconfiguration.

Demonstrate effective communication and negotiation skills relevant to contemporary HR practice.

Use effectively business research skills to address HR issues and practice aiming at organisational impact.

Undertake an autonomous research project where they can identify and justify a research question/s, design and implement a suitable research methodology, analyse data, discuss results and make suitable recommendations.
Assessment
In addition to traditional methods of assessment, including exams, class tests and reesearch projects, you’ll be assessed using a number methods, designed to give insight into best practices in the world of work. These include portfolio work, case study analysis, presentations (individual and group) and report writing.
There will also be 'authentic' assessments that replicate the type of work you would be expected to undertake as an HR professional. This includes self-reflection and activities such as designing and running a staff development event. The aim of the assessment strategy is not only to test your personal knowledge of the course, but also help you to learn through practice.

Fees and Funding
Please note: this course will run over 16 months full-time and 28 months part-time if you begin your studies in January.

Your fee status is typically based on the country where you’ve lived on a regular, non-temporary basis for the three years prior to the start of your course.
We’ll confirm your tuition fees once you’ve applied.
International
International includes applicants from EU countries who do not hold Pre-Settled or Settled Status in the UK. (Students from the Republic of Ireland are not included.)

Abertay Postgraduate Taught rUK Scholarship
This £1,000 award is open to all prospective new postgraduate students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Abertay International Scholarship
An award of up to £3,000 per year for up to a maximum of four years, for prospective new international undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.

When you join us as a postgraduate student or researcher, you’ll join a community of creative like-minded scholars. You will be working in our dedicated study and social spaces – a forum in which you can meet, work and learn with other researchers and postgraduates from across the University.
