Our Global MBA prepares professionals for leadership in an international context. This programme will equip you with knowledge and skills across the full breadth of the management discipline, including people management, strategic development and financial decision-making and control.
Your skills will be honed through the lens of international business and leading business transformation, empowering you and your organisation to respond strategically to the changing environment.
Your development will be highlighted through the capstone module, which is a choice of consultancy style project presented by one of our business partners or based on a challenge within your own workplace, or a more theoretical research-based topic.

Demonstrate critical understanding and integration of management and leadership knowledge within a local and international context.
Select and apply appropriate tools and techniques to different problem situations in meeting strategic organisational aims.

The Master’s will be taught using blended learning. You will attend on-campus, face-to-face lectures and tutorials, alongside online sessions.
Topical, international case-based and research material will be used to encourage learner autonomy, empowerment, the development of higher order thinking skills and cooperative group activities, such as team presentations. At the start of modules, you’ll be given more directed tutor support and will be encouraged to provide peer support and constructive feedback.
Please note: The information displayed on this page shows the Global MBA as it is delivered on-campus at Abertay University.
The programme also runs with our international partners Westford University College and Castelldefels School of Social Sciences (C3S), and also fully online with Abertay Online. The modules run through these different routes may vary from those listed on this page.
One of the key benefits of undertaking an MBA is the networking opportunities it provides and the ability to learn from other managers. Therefore active discussion forms a significant part of the learning strategy. This is backed up with tutorial exercises, lectures (recorded or live) and resources placed on our virtual learning environment.
Although theory forms the bedrock of the modules, this is delivered and discussed in a very applied manner through the use of personal experiences, case-studies and simulations. As a Master’s level course there is also an expectation of personal reflection, research and investigation.
Assessment is varied across the modules but designed to provide an opportunity for greater learning. In this way we adopt the best practice approach of assessment ‘for’ learning rather than simply ‘of’ learning.
The diversity of assessment includes, personal reflections on experience, application of knowledge to given scenarios and exploration of theoretical concepts. This leads to presentation of work in oral, visual or written forms.
This module provides an in-depth understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and the practical implications of international approaches, models and regulations of managing people in a global context. Through this module you will examine the different models of international human resource management, the major employment policies of multinational companies and the problems that arise when operating in different countries.
Managing a project is akin to managing a micro-organisation. Everything is there – handling budgets, managing people, leading change, analysing and treating risk, dealing with contractors, managing stakeholder expectations and overseeing all aspects of the project. In this module we will use various tools and techniques to help us understand what is going on in our project and to ensure that we develop a quality product, service or process that is delivered on time, in budget and to specification. You will apply your knowledge to a project within your subject area.
This module aims to equip you with an understanding of the complex nature of leading and managing people when implementing and evaluating change in organisations. The relationship between task, people and technology will be analysed in the context of organizational change. Factors that necessitate change and the main indicators of change are critically analysed. Different approaches to leadership are examined as are alternative models of organisational change.
This module enables students to gain an in-depth understanding of and critically evaluate contemporary issues in marketing, from a theoretical and practical perspective. You will apply your knowledge by developing a solution drawing on the current developments and issues explored in this module.
The three pillars of sustainable business are social fairness, environmental protection and economic viability. While the last of these has always been a concern for organisations the first two are rising in their prominence and regardless of where your organisation is they are ignored at your peril. This module will help you to understand aspects of all three pillars and to consider the strategies taken to improve key performance indicators in each area.
To succeed in the future, managers must develop the resources and capabilities needed to gain and sustain advantage in competitive markets. The way in which organisations attempt to develop such competitive advantage constitutes the essence of their strategy. This module considers the impact of current and emerging economic, political, digital and cultural factors and the relationship between strategy, stakeholder expectations and organisational performance. The strategic implications of e-business and the resulting digital transformation are also discussed.
Within this module, you will learn how to critically analyse the accounting approaches that go towards creating financial accounts and budgeting. You will also develop the skills necessary to evaluate common financial control mechanisms and tools to help with financial decision making.
Generating useable data for decision making is a task that needs an awareness of many factors. To be able to do this you need to firstly understand the question being asked and then the data that you possess. Do you have all the data you need? If not, how will you find it? How will you clean it? How will you process it and present it in a way that is beneficial to the decision maker? All these technical questions will be answered in this module.
This module is designed to introduce postgraduate students to business research methods and statistical analysis. Theoretical, historical and statistical concepts are taught in lectures with hands on practical lab sessions using quantitative or/and qualitative techniques that allow students to put theory into practice.
This module is your opportunity to shape the project you will undertake in the capstone module: MBA555 Management Investigation. You will have learned different approaches to undertaking a research project in the Business Research Methods module, and these will help guide you in your formation of a suitable proposal for the management investigation, which follows this module.
This is a capstone module for the Master's programme that is related to your professional background or an area of interest nurtured during the course of your MSc.
