The Tay Cities Digital Ecosystem Mapping Report provides a comprehensive assessment of the digital technology sector across Angus, Dundee, Perth & Kinross and North East Fife. Commissioned by Scottish Enterprise and Tay Cities partners, the research maps the region’s digital businesses, support organisations and connectivity infrastructure, while identifying the key opportunities and challenges facing the sector.
The report highlights a growing and diverse digital ecosystem comprising 281 digital technology companies spanning sectors such as software development, gaming, cybersecurity, telecommunications, data and analytics, MedTech, FinTech and AgriTech. It also identifies a strong network of support organisations, educational institutions and innovation programmes that help businesses start, grow and scale.
Drawing on extensive stakeholder engagement with businesses, universities, local authorities and industry partners, the report examines the issues affecting the region’s digital economy. Key challenges include talent attraction and retention, access to funding and investment, ecosystem engagement, digital connectivity in rural areas, and navigating the wider support landscape. At the same time, significant opportunities were identified to strengthen collaboration, develop a stronger regional identity, attract investment, improve skills provision and enhance digital infrastructure.
The report concludes with a series of recommendations designed to support long-term digital growth, including the creation of a central ecosystem platform, targeted talent initiatives, improved access to support and funding, stronger collaboration across sectors, and continued investment in connectivity infrastructure. These findings form the foundation of the Tay Cities Digital Ecosystem Roadmap and help shape the future direction of the region’s digital economy.
