Reascend

2D top-down Action/Adventure Dungeon game Reascend involves the player battling their way to the top of a mysterious tower to defeat the boss at its peak. They must complete each floor by defeating enemies and solving puzzles.

The game revolves around a dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA) system which alters the game during play. The system reacts to the player’s skill level, adjusting aspects of the game so the player will always have a balanced difficulty experience. Each floor in the game is randomly generated, offering new rooms and enemies for the player to defeat.

Reascend

Reascend is a Top-Down Action Dungeon game where the player must progress up a mysterious tower to defeat the boss at its peak.

“Reascend” is a 2020 Digital Graduate Show project by Sam Hodson, a student at Abertay University.

Motivation

I have always loved Zelda-like dungeon games but felt that their options for difficulty could be improved. Instead of simply having the enemies gain additional health and deal extra damage, I felt these games could implement more interesting ways of increasing the challenge. My project is a dungeon game which applies dynamic difficulty adjustment, adjusting the game's difficulty to the player's skill level, to make enemies challenging through their behaviours and abilities altering with the difficulty.
