Synopsis
The 'Formalising crab.Bit' research project aims to explore business development and video game production practices from enterprise support services, renowned practitioners, and representatives from local industry. Discrepancies and areas of commonality between published materials and discourse will be reviewed against lived experiences to ascertain the efficacy of such resources at a practical working level. Ultimately, the study aims to inform the process of taking a pre-existing student game development team, formerly known as Craberty, to the next stage: a start-up video game consultancy producing works for the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) sector and beyond.

Project Motivation
At the beginning of 2021, I was randomly assigned to a team for our Interactive Media second year module. At first, we went by Crabertay and we immediately clicked. I started working as a producer on the team. Since then we have grown as individuals - some have left to work in industry and others have joined us - and have worked on a plethora of different projects. After learning about some of the working conditions of big players in the industry, we wanted to work for ourselves and have a go at starting our own company. Now known as crab.Bit, my honours project has been focusing on ensuring we are in as best a place as we can be in for starting-up as a studio.
