An Exploration of Believability and Timing in Game Character Animation

Through 3D game animation and game engine implementation, this project explores how to achieve believability in animation, and how to best showcase these using Unreal Engine 4. Believability in animation typically means that an animator aims to have the audience/player become immersed in the continuously qualitative movement onscreen. This is achieved by using the suitable movement, weighting etc on the character, as well as utilising animation principles such as anticipation, timing and secondary actions, where relevant. I will be researching how game animators balance using realism with exaggeration in games in order to create the most believable and enjoyable animations.
