Rorschium, Abstraction of Emotion

"Rorschium, abstraction of emotion. " is a 2022 Digital Graduate Show project by Heather Barbeau, a Computer Arts student at Abertay University.

Synopsis

The project is about emotion, and how one can communicate the different emotions we feel during day-to-day life as well as other stronger emotions through abstraction. The abstraction will be done in different ways. Traditional art was used for experimentation purposes, and digital still artwork was then done for further experimentation, and after that, animations were moved onto as the final outcome came to its natural fruition through this iteration process. The project itself is not necessarily to have a specific emotion attached to it, but it is to elicit different emotions from people by watching and looking at the different pieces.

Rorschium, Abstraction of Emotion

The project is about emotion, and how one can express it in an abstract way - with colours, shapes and such - alone.

Project Motivation

What motivated the creation of this project was a simple game. A game about a sanatorium, and monsters that would come out at night, with nurses there who pretended it did not happen. I wanted to initially express emotions felt towards the treatment of patients in the old days. The project, however, has further developed to encompass all emotions, and to be an expression of abstraction of emotions as well as how one feels in relation to the art created.
