Prof White oversees the University’s research activity and is the driving force behind the Graduate School - an essential component of Abertay’s R-LINCS (Research-Led Innovation Nodes for Contemporary Society) Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy.
She graduated from University College Cardiff in 1987 with a BSc Hons in Microbiology, before undertaking a PhD in mycology at the University of Wales College of Cardiff.
"I’m proud to be part of the Abertay research community which continues to output work of the highest quality year after year" - Prof Nia White
Previously Head of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology at Abertay, Prof White is particularly passionate about multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research, and was involved in the development of the cross-disciplinary research group, SIMBIOS.
Set up in 2014, the Graduate School is led by Prof White, providing a comprehensive researcher development programme to support the development of postgraduate students, both taught and research, as well as research and academic staff.
Prof White is also Chair of the Self-Assessment Team that recently saw Abertay secure an Athena SWAN bronze award for the University for the second time, recognising the University’s commitment to gender equality in academia.
She said: “I’m proud to be part of the Abertay research community which continues to output work of the highest quality year after year.
“At Abertay we seek to bridge conventional boundaries between research disciplines and actively investigate creative and innovative approaches to address the questions posed by modern society.
“Our academic experts often work with external and industry partners, producing research that not only breaks new ground but, crucially, has an impact on the real world.”
