September 2021 Applicants and Enquirers

Information that will impact on new students looking to join Abertay

This page is for our applicants and enquirers looking to join Abertay in September 2021. We’ll update it with information as it becomes available.

Applications

If you’ve not yet applied, we’re still accepting applications.

The UCAS deadline for undergraduate courses has been extended to 29 January.  Details of how to apply can be found on each course page. If you’ve forgotten to include information in your application, please email the information to admissions@abertay.ac.uk.

Application Decisions and Offer Letters

If you’re a UCAS applicant, you can see your application decision in UCAS Track.

If you’re a direct applicant, we’ll be sending out offer letters by email from the end of January.

Deferred Entry

Once you hold an Unconditional Firm offer from us, you can decide to change the year you join us by asking to defer your offer to the next intake. This is easy to do right up until shortly before the start date

Applying for Accommodation

You’ll be able to apply for accommodation once you’ve accepted our offer.  Applications for accommodation open in late spring, but don’t worry, we’ll be in touch by email to let you know when accommodation applications are open.

Transcripts

Abertay graduates who want copies of transcripts should contact regstudentrec@abertay.ac.uk.

Abertay’s approach to admissions

We recognise the disruption Covid-19 has caused to your education. We'd like to reassure you that we will take the impact of the pandemic into account when assessing applications.

UK nations - exams

Scotland:

The Scottish Government announced on 8 December 2020 that plans for the 2021 exam diet have been updated in light of continuing disruption to young people’s education caused by coronavirus.

Higher and Advanced Higher exams will not go ahead, and will be replaced with awards based on teacher judgement of evidence of pupils’ attainment. The assessment model will be based on the approach already agreed for National 5 awards.

No algorithm will be used to adjust the estimated grades put forward by teachers. Certificates will be awarded 10 August 2021.

England:

A-level and GCSE exams are due to go ahead in 2021 but starting three weeks later than usual.

Northern Ireland:

All exams are due to go ahead in 2021.  The Northern Irish Executive have issued a statement detailing their arrangements.

Wales:

The Welsh Government has cancelled all GCSE and A-level exams and have issued a statement outlining their arrangements  for General Qualifications.

International students

We understand that different measures are in place in different countries and are continually adapting our admissions policy in line with these changes.

UCAS decision dates

UCAS has a series of deadlines. This is when you must make a decision about which offer you want to accept from courses and universities. Personal deadlines will always be on UCAS Track.

  • If you receive your last decision from a university on whether to offer you a place on or before 20 May 2021, your reply date is 10 June 2021 (except if you're using Extra to find a place).
  • If you receive your last decision from a university on whether to offer you a place on or before 13 July 2021, your reply date is 14 July 2021 (including Extra choices).
